Versatile material
The transparent bio- compatible dressing is only one of the possibilities.
A cellulose film will soon
be on the market, it is obtained througha bio technology, which
presents an ample gamut of applications. Among the products that
will be commercialized, we must mention a bio-compatible dressing
that can temporarily substitute the skin of people that are recapturing
from abrasion lesions, varicose ulcers and , mainly burns. The
dressing also constitutes a ray barrier of type UVB and UVA;
it is possible that the patient may take baths without losing
the dressing, besides allowing the use of clothes.
The transparent dressing is
one of the products that have been tested and approved, made
from bacterial cellulose.
Preliminary studies detected
that with bacterial celluloses it is possible to manufacture
from bullet proof vests to material for the preservation of historical
documents.The chemist Edison Pecoraro. Who together with the
team of UNESP develops applications for the bio-cellulose, affirms:
"very few materials have the possibility of being used in
aerospace engineering to neurological implants.
The studies have been made
by the company of the city of Sao Paulo Bionext Biotechnological
Products in association with investigations of the institute
of chemistry of the State University Paulista and into the institute
of Physics of the University of SAO Paulo (USP), the foundation
from shelter to the investigation informed(Fapesp)
This type of cellulose (product traditionally of origin vegetal
that is the base of the paper) takes place by the bacterium Acetobacter
Xylum, found mainly in fruits in decomposition and once processed
is highly impermeable to liquids and permeable to gases. This
type of cellulose already was known, but it has practically not
been explored commercially.
The curativo is biocompatible
and allows to replace the human skin temporaraily while this
one regenerates, explained the plastic surgeon and medical director
of Bionext, Lecy Marcondes Cabral.
The person in charge considered
that this "artifical skin" will be able to be applied
in burns or procedures of cardiology, neurology and odontology.
Once the regenerated skin, the artifical one falls automatically
and while she continues beaten to the body, its impermeability
gurantees a protection against bacteria.
